With Maria, I continued hitchhiking from Espírito Santo to the south of Bahía. 10 km from Cumuruxativa, in the middle of nowhere, close to a beautiful deserted beach, we had a very special, nature close, couchsurfing place.
In the beginning we solicituted to stay 3 days. In the end, we stayed one month.
We arrived at night in Cumuruxativa, after an exhausting hitchhiking day. But again with plenty of nice and inspiring experiences. Rodrigo, our couchsurfing host, picked us up in the little village Cumuruxativa, an one hour drive from Prado.
Rodrigo came with his scooter. First he drove me to his house, which is 10 km away from the village, at a beach. We drove on a bumpy dirt road, and later just on little paths through the jungle. And everything at night. It was a big adventure, not knowing where I will end up. Then he turned back the whole way, to get Maria.
He lives in a little house with 2 floors. Surrounded by idyllic nature, and plenty of trees like coconut, mango, papaya, orange, lemon, cinnamon, his vegetable garden with salat, ginger, herbs, corn, cabbage, rucola, tomatoes, pumpkins, carrots, etc.
It’s a very beautiful, magic peace of earth. The very long and quiet beach is just 10 walking minutes down the cliffs away. We spend long times there, walking, relaxing, playing beach tennis, swimming, reading, meditating, just living and enyoing our life.
Walking around here involves seeing plenty of hummingbirds and butterflies in all sized and colors, lizards, snakes, monkeys, spiders and so on. Sometimes, it was so crazy. That I felt like Alice in Wonderland.
The sunrises here are just amazing. Sometimes, I used to get up early in the morning, to see the sunrise at the sea and afterwards practicing yoga and meditation before breakfast.
The place is so quiet, that it´s a perfect location for relaxing, thinking about life, learning and living just the simple life, without internet and only with a little bit of energy from the sun.
Here was nothing, just his house, some other neighbor houses, a little restaurant, coconut trees and a lot of nature. Getting food, we had to be very creative, inventing new meals, with the things we had in the garden, with fish, that we or a friend of Rodri was fishing or with remaining stuff in the kitchen. Once a week, we went walking the 10 kms along the beach, or by scooter to Cumuruxativa, in order to get some little things from the supermarket.
One day, we collected about 15 coconuts from the trees around Rodrigos house, and started opening and rasping them. Pressing the milk out of the rasps and frying it, in order to get the coconut oil. It was a very long and exhausting process, as you can maybe imagine, but it was worth it. From 15 coconuts, we got about 300 ml of coconut oil.
Rodri taught us, how to make beautiful macramee bracelets and necklaces. I liked it so much, that now I continue with it, inventing new designs and using different colors. I am also selling them. So if you want some, just feel free to send me a message
Picking honey from the beehive:
We always made jokes, that there are many “fist times” here. First time, we made coconut oil, first time, we made macramee, etc. So also picking honey from the bees. It was so exciting. And the honey was so good, not comparable with the one, you can get at the supermarket.
Starting with the eco-construcion:
Rodri wants to build a house completely made of natural material. Of course, we wanted to help him with that, so soon, we started with digging the holes. One for the water tank, for capturing the rain water. And one for the house itself.
It was a great place, for leaning all these things, and I enyoied, the time with Rodrigo and Maria a lot. Enclosed you can find some more photos of our adventures here.
